I am a physicist working in a chemical engineering department. I am a firm believer that dividing science into 'disciplines' or 'fields' is a 19th century idea that we really should get over. My public engagement 'career', such as it is, was initiated by a short media fellowship working on news articles at the journal Nature. Since then I have written news and features articles when I can find time, as well as a popular science book, 'Middle World', published by Macmillan. I've done café scientifique, Royal Institution & British Science Association talks in various places. Dizzy heights of celebrity were momentarily reached when I was once a guest on a BBC Radio Nottingham afternoon show. I have never quite recovered from the experience.
