Tom Whyntie from Imperial College London, won the NESTA FameLab Grand Final, with a presentation on nothing.... well, how finding nothing with the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) would be a great result. With his charisma and humour Tom enchanted the audience with his three minute presentation and convinced everyone that £5bn spent on the LHC is not a waste of money not matter what the result will be. Head judges Kathy Sykes remarked "We were really impressed by all the finalists as the standard was incredibly high, but Tom really stood out, as he gave a stunning presentation and was able to communicate a complex concept to the general public with humour and ease. We want to congratulate him and wish them the best of luck in his future career. We hope that he will go on to great things and inspire a whole new generation of scientists."
