If you think you can explain a concept in science, mathematics or engineering in just 3 minutes using only the props you can carry on stage with you, then enter a FameLab competition near you! At each location we offer FREE training and information sessions with top STEM communicators. A full list of heat locations, times and dates can be found here.

Why should I participate?

There are lots of very good reasons which Roger Highfield, Director of External affairs for the Science Museum Group and former editor at The Daily Telegraph and New Scientist, sums up very well:

“On the surface FameLab looks like it is just a bit of fun but there is a very, very serious underlying purpose here - you just have to look around us to see how science is playing a really fundamental role in understanding our world and where it is going so we need a new generation of people to explain science if the democratic process is going to work effectively.”

FameLab contestants are coached and mentored by some of the best science communicators in the world. By entering FameLab you will begin a journey with like-minded people, explore your own potential and, most of all, have a fantastic time! If all that isn't enough you might like to know that you can win a place on our expenses paid master class as well as £1000 prize money + £750 to spend on a public engagement activity.

Globally more than 4000 researchers have taken part. The result is a vibrant network of exciting scientists and engineers engaging international audiences but also engaging with each other, broadening each others views of what it means to be working in science right now.

But don't just take our word for it; why not see what researchers, presenters and FameLab contestants themselves have to say:

Great! You’ve convinced me, when and where are the heats?

Whether you are in Scotland, Wales or England, there are locations across the UK where you can enter in person
