Lia Ying Li left her job in industry at the end of 2011 to start a PhD in Optomechanics at UCL that involves trying to get light to interact with small objects in order to investigate their quantum behaviour. She entered FameLab on a whim after doing only one other large public speaking event about lasers and lightsabers. She didn’t expect to get through to the final, but is excited to be given an opportunity to explain some concepts in physics which blew her mind when she first learnt about them. Let's hope people are ready for comedy quantum physics! She is involved with the UCL Beacon awarded project called 'The Quantum Workshop' [http://thequantumworkshop.wordpress.com/] that allows the public to get up close and personal with a laser levitation demo.
